Joeboy Calls It Quits At Mr Eazi’s emPawa. Launches Own Label In Partnership With Warner Music

Date:

Wrapping up his five-year tenure at emPawa Africa, Joseph Akinwale alias Joeboy, literally stepped into his big boy pants and is now making even bigger strides, transitioning from an artist to a whole Chief Executive Officer.

This follows the ‘Baby’ crooner launching his record label by the name ‘Young Legend’, having quit emPawa Africa, the music label owned by Mr Eazi that he was signed to since 2019 when he first debuted onto the scene, having been discovered by Mr Eazi in 2017 and undergoing artist development.

While at emPawa, Joeboy dropped two EPs (‘Love & Light’, and ‘Body, Soul & Spirit’), two albums (‘Somewhere Between Beauty‘ and Magic’, and most recently ‘Body and Soul’), and numerous hit singles and collaborations, amassing over 2 billion cumulative streams across digital streaming platforms.

On this new chapter, the 26-year-old has gone ahead and signed a dual-deal partnership with global music powerhouse Warner Music Group, the home of some of the biggest names in music, including Joeboy’s collaboration mate Ckay, among others. Joeboy joining WMG as a flagship artist means he’ll be releasing under them and running his other label independently.

With the launch of the entertainment company Young Legend, Joeboy also seeks to create, sign, and mentor up-and-coming artists into big stars. He therefore assumes the role of CEO, while Deola Jaiyesimi takes on the position of Head of Label, tasked with nurturing the next generation of Afrobeats superstars on a global scale, following in the footsteps of industry icons like Don Jazzy, Olamide, and his former boss, Mr. Eazi.

Announcing his new record label, Joeboy made the revelation via his social media handles, captioning it, “Dawn of a new era. Young Legend is alive”
