Ayra Starr’s Sophomore Album ‘The Year I Turned 21’ Set For A May Release Date

This latest offering from the Afro Pop star carries exciting features from Giveon, Asake, Anitta, Coco Jones, Seyi Vibez, and more.

Billed as one of the most appealing voices on the Afrobeats scene at the moment, Mavin Records signee Ayra Starr is set to release her sophomore album The Year I Turned 21 on May 31. This was revealed by the ‘Rhythm & Blues; crooner yesterday, Wednesday (May 1).

The Sabi Girl additionally served up its album artwork. On it, the 21-year-old Beninese-Nigerian singer sticks out of a red convertible, with her windswept curly hair exposing her beautifully bejeweled floral dress. She didn’t just stop there, Ayra went on to share the track list for the 14-track set and on it, we find out that ‘The Year I Turned 21’ will house features collaborations from Asake on “Goodbye (Warm Up)”, “For Tonight singer” Giveon will appear on “Last Heartbreak Song”, “Woman Commando” featuring Anitta and Coco Jones, Seyi Vibez on “Bad Vibes” and “1942” will have a guest appearance from Ayra Starr’s frequent collaborator; Milar.

Starr’s previously released gems “Commas” and “Rhythm & Blues” are to also be included on the LP, alongside new solo efforts; “Birds Sing Of Money”, “Control (Lagos Love Story)”, “21”, “ORUN”, “Jazzy’s Song”, and “The Kids Are Alright”.

While in interview with Billboard Magazine back then in February 2024, the “Commas” hitmaker had this to say about the LP:

“The Ayra Starr I want to introduce is excellent, sonically amazing. This album is unique because I’ve been evolving sonically.”

The Year I Turned 21 arrives three years after her debut studio album, 19 & Dangerous, which featured hit songs “Bloody Samaritan”, and “Fashion Killer”, which later got a deluxe version featuring the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at this year’s Grammys nominated “Rush”.
