The editor of this website was reliably informed while discussing the upcoming events that are set to take place this week, among those mentioned was the one which will be headlined by the Benin born and bred young star Qing Madi. He was informed by an insider at one of the top event organzing curators and organziers that there was plans to have her perform in Kampala last year when she had just broken onto the scene, however this wasn’t possible as discussed above.

Qing Madi’s success at a tender age comes as no surprise, as she started crafting songs from the age of 9, penning some of her now bangers “See Finish”, and “Qing’s Medley”. At the same time, she was doing ballet classes (explains the ballet dancing opening scenes in the remix of “Vision”, the hit track on which she features Chloe Bailey). Now what’s interesting about its original is that is it was recording while Qing was 14.

Madi’s journey to being an internet sensation hit go when “See Finish” went viral on Tiktok, having started out as a sketch freestlye she kept singing to and netizens started posting using her sound, eventually prompting her to release it as a track. This attention attracted potential record label signings, eventually settling for Jton Music (Columbia/ Bu Vision). She would go on to garner viral, digital and mainstream success, thanks to her BNXN assisted track “OLE” which propelled her to that status. They would then perform it together for the first time as part of the latter’s tour in the U.S.

The real game changer however was “American Love” which gained widespread popularity around Valentine’s Day last year, with many using that sound on Snapchat, Instagram and Tiktok as the background song to their short videos they recorded with their loved ones, or even when they posted pictures with them. Around this time, the track was enjoying dominating the Apple Music Top 100 chart of Uganda where it roared atop for a couple of weeks.

To Qing Madi’s belt is a self-titled EP, released in November 2023. The 7 track body of work, eight months later got a deluxe version featuring 3 new songs: “Vision” Remix alongside Chloe Bailey, the Kizz Daniel-assisted “YBIL (You Believe in Love)” and “Sins For U”. She’s also shared her sultry vocals on records like Joeboy’s ‘Adenuga’, ‘Honest’ by DJ Neptune, the remix to Joshua Baraka’s ‘Dalilah’ alongside Simi, among others.

Still on fan love, one video that really blew Qing Madi’s mind was one of a group of teenagers who were at a birthday party, and “American Love” played, and they passionately each sang their hearts out, along word for word to the song, capturing Qing’ attention and therefore prompting her heartfelt display of interest to come perform in Kampala, Uganda.

Well, the wait is no more. Qing Madi will be sharing her art with fans in Uganda this Saturday 7 at the Zoe Grounds. Among the opening acts at the show will be Vinka, Elijah Kitaka, Denesi, Kohen Jaycee, Tungi among others. Tickets are selling on Quicket and MTN Momo. Get yours now.
