Davido fans worldwide have every reason to celebrate! That’s cuz, after much anticipation, he has finally dropped his fifth body of work ‘5ive’.
Released via Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), RCA Records and Sony Music UK, the 17-track project comes nearly 2 years since his chart topping LP “TIMELESS”, which just like its name birthed timeless bangers such as the Musa Keys assisted ‘UNAVIALABLE’, ‘KANTE’ on which he featured Fave, and FEEL, among others. TIMELESS was nominated for Best Global Music Album at the 2024 Grammy Awards, while UNVAILABLE was nominated for Best African Music Performance.
In terms of genres, ‘5ive’ boasts an eclectic mix of genres—Afrobeats, R&B, Amapiano, dancehall, and pop, reflecting Davido’s willingness to cater to diverse markets and deliver raio- ready bangers.
The LP is a worldwide star studded affair, stacked with appearances from Afrobeats stars Omah Lay, Victony, plus OdumoduBlvckand Chike (the pair with whom he worked on ‘FUNDS’). ‘5ive’ additionally features international stars led by Jamaican star YG Marley, whom Davido featured on song ‘Awuke’, the album’s lead single. Caribbean stars Shenseaand 450 made an appearance on the project as well.
At this point, we can’t deny the chemistry and buoyancy between Chris Brown and Davido whenever they meet on a track. Songs like “Shopping Spree”, “Blow My Mind”, “Sensational”, among others have been a testament to this. As his frequent collaborator, Chris Brown and Davido have reunited on ‘5ive’ as well.
3 time Grammy winning vocalist Victoria Monet, French speaking talents Tayc and Dadju as well as Latin pop star Becky G have also made an appearance on the star studded album.
The album’s rollout has been spectacular, with Davido hosting pre-release events in Nigeria, New York, and Paris, where he performed unreleased tracks like the Victony and Musa Keys collaboration to rapturous crowds. A full album performance in London on April 17, 2025, at La Machine du Moulin Rouge further heightened excitement, as did his 5ive city tour, which included stops in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and London, with a stadium show planned for Tottenham in July. Social media buzz has been relentless, with fans hailing 5ive as a “genre-bending” project that could outshine Timeless.
5ive is more than an album, it is a cultural moment that cements Davido’s legacy while pointing to the future of Afrobeats. At 32, he’s not just resting on his laurels as a pioneer; he’s actively shaping the genre’s next chapter.
The album 5ive proves that the Afrobeats megastar is still hungry, blending African pride with a global sound that invites everyone to the party.
Commenting on why he named the project ‘5ive’, the Afrobeats megastar mentioned that:
“This 5ive album? Man, it means everything to me. It’s more than just a number — it’s a statement of where I stand, five albums in,” the Afrobeats icon said in a press release. “Getting to work with artists that I love and respect from all over the world on this project was a blessing. Different sounds, different cultures, but one vibe! This one right here shows my growth, my journey and where I am now in my life and my artistry.”
From “Damiduro” in 2012 to now, its been Davido’s world and we have just been living in it. Just as was with TIMELESS, even on ‘5ive’, there’s Davido’s magical touch as Executive Producer, having co-produced most of the songs on there.
To announce the arrival of the album, Davido in the same video announced a ground breaking partnership with PlayStation 5.
