Sheepeee, OBO, Baddest as Davido is referred to by his fans shut down the Kololo Airstrip last night!

After months of teasing, Grammy-nominated Afrobeats marve David Adedeji Adeleke also famously known as Davido finally touched down on Ugandan soil yesterday as part of his TIMELESS world tour. This was such a perfect timing for it aligned well with March 29 into the 30th which happens to be the body of work’s one-year anniversary.

The highly celebrated LP was his 4th album and was decorated with many fan favorites which not only saw him redefine the sound of feel-good Afro beats but dominate charts everywhere, and sell-out venues.

Last night, the Kololo Airstrip joined the list of these venues where the iconic multifaceted singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, and performing artist put on an over-the-roof performance to the already eager audiences.

Despite a slight delay in his arrival, any doubts about his attendance were dispelled to bed as videos and pictures of him at Entebbe International Airport circulated online as it was approaching 8PM.

Davido would later go on to launch the ‘Faculty of Music and Arts’ at the International University of East Africa where he was also honored with a hall being named after him.

Back then at the Kololo Airstrip, revelers were queuing up, getting their passes scanned, and getting in. MTN Uganda’s MTN Mobile Money Limited was in place offering tickets at a discount in case anyone bought or paid for their tickets to the show while using the platform.

Colorful electric backdrops by NRG Radio offered revelers an opportunity to snap a few memories for the Gram.

As a way of setting the mood, a host of artists including Pia Pounds, Nina Roz, Jose Chameleone, Fik Gaza, and Sheebah performed a couple of their songs, with emerging and fast-rising Afro-soul singer Aaronx being a standout for he had audiences in their feels when he soulfully performed his tracks “Tambula” and “Njalwalwa”.

Selector Jay and DJ Vanss were among the disk jockeys keeping the party going as the crowds warmed up for the main man of the night.

At the clock of midnight sharp, the stage was graced by The Compozers, a band that’s made a name for itself as the backbone of Afrobeats. They did set up their instruments and there and then, revelers sensed an icon was an in sight, for the band has been the one that was set to play for Davido as has been the case since the commencement of his Timeless tour.

Davido wasted no time soon as he hit the stage than he kick off with delivering bangers. Opening his set with “OVER DEM”, he would later go on to showcase that indeed when speaking Afrobeats and performances, there should come only one name in mind, his.

He was joined by Pallaso for their joint effort “Twatoba”, and he later gave the spotlight to “Nkuloga” singer Grenade as a way of shining the spotlight on some of the music coming out of Uganda.

Audiences’ spirits soared the more Davido performed, singing along word for word, with and to each song, emoting emotions of cheer, nostalgia, and merry, for most, songs like ‘AYE’, ‘FALL’, ‘DAMIDURO’, ‘GOBE’ took them down memory lane, more so the day one fans.

Serving a bit of this and a bit of that, as part of his performance, Davido balanced the wheels and touched the TIMELESS era with tracks like Asake assisted ‘NO COMPETITION’, NA MONEY (feat. The Cavemen and Angelique Kidjo), KANTE which had Fave on it, ‘AWAY’, and closing with amapiano infused Musa Keys assisted ‘UNAVIALBLE’.

During his stellar 1 hour 15 minutes performance, among Baddest’s set list was his Focalistic assisted joints ‘Ke-Star’ and ‘Champion Star’, ‘JOWO’, ‘Risky (feat. Popcan)’, ‘Assurance’, ‘Electricity’ on which he was featured by producer turned artist Pheelz plus “HIGH’ (alongside Adekunle Gold). With the number of classics, he has recorded with Chris Brown from time memorial, it was a no-brainer that he Davido sang ‘Blow My Mind’, and ‘Sensational’ LIVE, perfectly backed by The Compozers ascending the night to greater heights of musical awesomeness.

The Timeless Kampala concert came right at the heels of Good Friday as the world and Uganda as well warm up for Easter providing a steady set off into the festive weekend ahead.

May not have attended the 2018 into 2019 New Year’s Eve show he headlined at the Pearl of Africa Hotel (Kampala) but Davido’s stage presence and captivating performance at last night’s show was nothing short of amazing, A Very Good Time was had!
