Glovo Uganda Empowers Couriers In Comprehensive 3-Day Initiative

Date:

Leading multi-category app Glovo has today successfully concluded its highly anticipated 3-Day Courier Program, a series of events focused on the growth, development, and recognition of its couriers. The initiative, themed ‘Courier Day,’ took place from June 18th to June 20th, and included comprehensive training sessions, charitable activities, and a celebratory awards ceremony, underscoring Glovo’s commitment to empowering its couriers and giving back to the community.

The program kicked off with an essential road safety training conducted by Safeboda, aimed at equipping couriers with the knowledge and skills to navigate the roads safely. Additionally, global fast-food chain KFC provided an insightful customer service training session, enhancing couriers’ ability to deliver exceptional service to customers. Leading telecommunications company MTN facilitated a financial literacy session on Day 2, empowering couriers with valuable financial management skills. “Value creation for our stakeholders, including couriers, is of utmost priority in Uganda. Our goal is to build a thriving ecosystem where couriers, partners, and customers all benefit from our innovative and tech-driven services,” said Ivy Maingi, General Manager of Glovo Uganda.

Further emphasizing the importance of partnerships, Miriam Namubiru of MTN Uganda highlighted the alignment of their financial literacy training with MTN’s commitment to driving digital and financial inclusion. Ricky Rapa Thomson, Co-founder of Safeboda, expressed pride in supporting Glovo couriers by providing them with the knowledge to navigate Kampala’s busy streets safely. This collaborative effort was designed to ensure courier safety, enhance customer service skills, and improve financial literacy, ultimately leading to a more effective and satisfied workforce.

As part of Glovo Cares, couriers visited the Neglected Child and Orphanage Foundation to make donations and spend time with the children. This initiative highlights Glovo’s commitment to making a positive impact on the communities it serves. “Our couriers are not just delivery personnel; they are community members who care deeply about making a difference, and through Glovo Cares, we aim to foster this,” remarked Brendon Njoroge, Head of Operations for Glovo Uganda. The event underscored the importance of community engagement and corporate social responsibility in Glovo’s operational philosophy.

The Courier Day Program culminated in a grand awards ceremony, recognizing the hard work and dedication of Glovo’s couriers. Awards were presented to couriers who demonstrated exceptional performance, dedication, and customer service excellence. “The awards ceremony is our way of showing appreciation for our couriers’ unwavering commitment and hard work,” said Ngoroje. This recognition not only boosts courier morale but also reinforces their commitment to Glovo, ensuring continued excellence in service delivery.

A key highlight of the program was the launch of Glovo’s groundbreaking partnership with Zembo, Uganda’s leading electric motorcycle company. This collaboration aims to reduce emissions and promote sustainable urban mobility, aligning with Glovo’s broader vision of environmental sustainability. “By integrating Zembo’s electric motorbikes into our fleet, we are taking a significant step towards reducing emissions and promoting green transportation solutions,” said Maingi. This partnership represents a significant step towards sustainability and cost-efficiency in the quick commerce industry.

In conclusion, the Courier Day Program underscores Glovo’s dedication to empowering its couriers and contributing positively to the community. By providing essential training, engaging in charitable activities, and recognizing outstanding performance, Glovo is committed to fostering a supportive and growth-oriented environment for its couriers. This initiative not only enhances the skills and knowledge of couriers but also ensures they can provide the best possible service to customers, embodying Glovo’s commitment to excellence and community impact.
