From launching her memoir My Mother Knows late last year in which she gives a first person personal tale on her musical journey, and weathering the storms of her childhood and adulting, in case you thought the talented singer, song writer, performing artist, and now self published author Iryn Namubiru was done, think again. The “Nkuweki” singer has some major plans for this year.

While in a Question-and-Answer session during a break in her performance this week on SHADES of Kampala at The Villa Bar, Lounge & Restaurant  on Wednesday, the host of the night Mr. Henrie welcomed questions from the audience and even chipped in his very own. Among those raised were whether, she sees herself giving us a concert soon. This made her chuckle, as she responded to the rather eager audience that; “Unfortunately not”.

She went on to reveal that over the past couple of months, she has been working being more intentional for her fans, and now that she is ready to step back into the spotlight. A testament to this is her recently rolled out 8 track body of work “I’m Ready”. The melodic project was heralded with lead single “Body”.

Iryn Namubiru went on to add that, she is now doing more radio interviews, and even performances, so the fans can experience her and her craft the more, minus necessarily giving them a full blown concert. Among the other venues she has performed at is Club Guvnor, Comedy Store, etc.

As a day one fan, who has for the longest of times longed to watch the vocally rich Iryn Namubiru perform, I couldn’t miss a chance to watch her when she was announced for “Shades of Kampala” at The Villa. While there, I experienced choir like defeaning sing alongs to her classics like “Nkuweki”, “Tebiba Binji”, “Begombeko”, “Njakunoba”, “Kabi Ki”, and “Simbabalala”. That is cuz these songs carried a lot of emotional weight, many could relate to them and they are were crafted to be timeless (enjoyed for then, now and the times to come).

Watching her performance left fans with that satisfying feeling of reconnecting with and catching up with an old friend who has grown wiser and bolder. This is therefore your que to attend any of Iryn Namubiru’s gigs and enjoy that late 2000’s music feeling and her artistry.
