Kezerod’s latest venture is a testament to being a jack of all trades. The young star has now added to his already heavy resume that includes being the co-founder of The Culturing (an online music, fashion and culture magazine), reMolders (a youth-focused program blending entrepreneurship, emotional intelligence, and cultural influence), and SMACK Startups (a business ecosystem for emerging founders).
The cultural commentator, entrepreneur, and entertainment-tech innovator has now ventured into music, dishing out his very first single.
Teaming up with DJ Khurk and Senté, Kezerod (born Joseph Montenegro Watema), a track by the title “What’s There Not to Love About Here?” was released. DJ Khurk is no stranger to making distinctive and captivating musical pairings.
He’s in the past worked with Senté, Tungi and now Kezerod, and this is due to DJ Khurk’s reputation of versatility and creative synergy which has made him a sought-after not just as a deejay but musical curator too.
The 3 minute 3 second record delivers a crisp, three-minute burst of indie pop/rock brilliance, complete with a hook-heavy chorus and uplifting lyrics. Whereas “What’s There Not to Love About Here?” isn’t Kezerod’s first official musical release, it marks his official solo debut as he’s previously linked and made waves as part of various bands in Scotland and beyond.
Derayernah, Kezerod’s former two-piece art rock band from Scotland, remains on hiatus, with its catalog withdrawn from streaming. However, his former bandmate Drue Marsland stepped in for this track, lending his expertise in guitar work, string arrangement, and production. As a nod to that legacy, Derayernah is credited on “What’s There Not to Love About Here?”
This is further shaping Kezerod’s reputation as a self-proclaimed all-rounder and creative whose journey has been shaped by a life of constant movement, social highs and lows, and shifting cultural landscapes.
Among the alt/indie artist’s influences is Wanja Wohoro, Keane, and Radiohead. Kezerod crafts music that reflects both personal resilience and artistic curiosity and so “What’s There Not to Love About Here?” is therefore an anthem of defiant hope—an ode to making every moment count, no matter where life takes you.
