The annual exciting and fun green goo-fest, Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards (KCA) which celebrates fan-favorite stars across the worlds of film, television, music, sports, and more, announced its picks for the 2021 ceremony this week ahead of the live award show.
Leading the pack with the most nods are Justin Bieber with five and Stranger Things with four. Ariana Grande, The Croods: A New Age, Henry Danger, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Soul, Trolls World Tour, and Wonder Woman 1984, are all tied with three nominations each.
The 2021 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards nominees list includes Zozibini Tunzi, Elsa Majimbo, Bonang, Siya Kolisi, Thuso Mbedu, Master KG and more African stars. The nominees include Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi, Elsa Majimbo, Bonang Matheba, Thuso Mbedu, Siya Kolisi, Master KG and more. This year’s nominee list is competitive with emerging African acts amplifying the hype and garnering attention from around the world.
African celebrities and their fans have their eyes set on the most coveted categories for “Favorite African Act” and “Favorite African Social Media Star”. South African stars dominate the “Favorite Africa Act” category, this according to News24. South African national rugby team captain Siya Kolisi, Zozibini Tunzi and Emmy-nominated South African actress Thuso Mbedu have bagged half the nominee spots. Other notable nominees are football sports stars Mo Salah from Egypt and Liverpool player Sadio Mane from Senegal. Ugandan singer Sheebah closes of the highly contested category. Eddy Kenzo is the only Ugandan to have won this award back in 2018 after defeating Davido, Diamond Platnumz, Casper Nyovest, Comedian Emanuela in the highly competitive ‘Best African Entertainer’. Rapper Sho Madjozi currently holds the title of “Favorite African Act” after winning the virtual awards last year.
According to YNaija, breakout social media star Elsa Majimbo from Kenya has made the nominations list for “Favorite African Social Media Star”. Nigerian actress Emmanuella known for her comical sketches will also be vying in the same category. International media personality Bonang Matheba and social media magician Wian Van den Berg have also bagged nominations for South Africa. Sensational Ugandan dance group Ghetto Kids and Nigerian social media comedy group Ikorodu Bois (young boys, who are known for recreating and mimicking multi-million-dollar music videos, Hollywood film trailers and epic pictures) complete the category list.
“Jerusalema” hitmaker Master KG from South Africa is the only African nominee in the “Global Music Star” category. He will have to win against notable global stars, Korean pop group BTS, French DJ David Guetta, Savannah Clarke representing Australia, American singer Taylor Swift and Sebastian Yatra from Latin America.
According to the network, for the first time ever, Nickelodeon’s Orange Blimp will leave the KCA venue and take fans on a wild ride filled with slime and messy stunts, where viewers will travel to outer space, Bikini Bottom, and right into celebrities’ homes using XR technology. This year’s show will also feature live and interactive fan walls that bring celebrities and families at home to the main stage; second screen live voting all night long where fans stay in control; and a KCA award presented by one lucky family chosen during the show. Musical performances will be announced in the coming weeks.
The 2021 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards will be hosted by Actor, comedian and Saturday Night Live cast member, Kenan Thompson.
