Nina Roz is finally getting her night. The singer recently announced her maiden concert, set for December 11 at the Lugogo Hockey Grounds.
While performing at Ray G’s “Tuze Kololo” concert, as part of the supporting properly stacked cast was Lydia Jazmine who brought her usual vocal fireworks, Omega 256, T-Paul, but somehow, Nina Roz walked away with the night in her pocket.
That’s cuz right there, mid set, she dropped the bomb nobody saw coming. Her very own maiden concert “Sounds of a Dream”, that she revealed is set for December this year at the Lugogo Hockey Grounds. She had earlier teased it in June this year, via her Instagram.
Just like Vinka’s, we have been waiting for this one, and honestly, it has been a long time coming.
Long before this moment, Nina Roz (born Nina Nankunda), was cutting her teeth under Team No Sleep, before moving through Boom Bark Records and Sure Entertainment. That run gave us Ntinka Nkutinke, “Kyoyooyo”, “Olumya Bano”, back when the world had just gone into lockdown. She later found a more settled home at Black Market Records, and the growth has been hard to miss. While here, she churned out hits Billboard (Kipande), Nangana and Andele, among others.

All of that makes this concert feel like the next logical chapter. I mean, who can forget her Bennie Gunter assisted “International Baby” jam, or even “Munda Dala”?
One thing we have to give Nina Roz for is her consistency in dropping music, with many landing mainstream success. Somehow the only missing piece has been her having a night that belongs entirely to her. Front to back. No sharing the spotlight. No waiting for her turn between other performers. Just Nina Roz.
There is also a bigger story underneath the timing of this announcement. The concert news comes as Uganda’s entertainment calendar begins to open up again following the country’s declaration that it is Ebola free, paving the way for events and gatherings to return with renewed confidence. All of a sudden it feels like August 2019 again, when we had a concert/ show every other week and the event calendar vibrant once again.

Nina Roz is certainly not alone. Mesach Ssemakula, Irene Namatovu, Grace Nakimera and several other artists have announced concerts of their own in recent weeks. Suddenly, the calendar is filling up and the energy feels strangely familiar.
Whatever the setlist eventually looks like, one thing is already clear: Nina Roz will bring the same commanding presence, one she has brought to stages such as that of the France-Uganda Friendship Week Finale Concert, Comedy Store Uganda, to mention but a few.
