Fresh from his impressive AFRIMMA nominations, where he emerged as the most nominated artist from Uganda, Joshua Baraka is making waves once again with his latest release. This time, he’s teamed up with one of Uganda’s beloved artists, Winnie Nwagi, for a brand-new track titled “Omukwano (Love).”
The song marks a reunion between Joshua Baraka and co-producer Axon, who have previously collaborated on hits like “NANA,” “OMU,” and “I DO.”
During an interview on Radiocity 97FM’s Mid-Morning Magazine with Sammy Wetala, the “Angel Of Mine” singer revealed an interesting backstory about “Omukwano (Love).” Originally, he had written the song with the intention of offering it to Rema Namakula. However, this idea remained a mere thought, and he never reached out to Rema Namakula.
The intriguing part of the story is how Joshua Baraka got Winnie Nwagi on board for the track. It all happened by chance when he was at Kush Lounge, a spot he frequents. On one random day, he happened to run into Winnie Nwagi, who happened to be a big fan of his song “NANA.” They struck up a conversation, exchanged phone numbers, and the end result of this unexpected encounter is the beautiful tune “Omukwano (Love).”
During the interview, Joshua also shared valuable lessons he learned from his collaborations with artists like Bien, King Promise, and Joeboy on the “NANA Remix.” Additionally, he hinted at the possibility of releasing an Extended Play (EP) in November later this year.
