As I first reported here a few weeks back, that the show was to last enough seasons, well guess what? Netflix superhit show Bridgerton has officially been renewed for another season and it looks like Lady Whistledown isn’t finished causing mayhem in British high society just yet.
Following the show’s becoming an instant hit and bringing in huge ratings after just a few days streaming platform ‘s announcement on Thursday, Netflix regency era drama Bridgerton is getting a second season, the said Thursday. The show follows the lives of upper crust families as they try to make auspicious marital matches, in the Bridgeton midst of a mysterious anonymous newsletter by an author (Lady Whistledown) who seems to know all the intimate comings and goings of the elite’s personal lives.
The announcement was written in the form of one of Whistledown’s Society Papers. In confirming there’ll be a season 2, Netflix also hinted it would stick close to book 2 in the Bridgerton novel series and also revealed a major plotline of the instalment; that Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), the eldest Bridgerton son, is set to be the center focus of this social season.” This will no doubt be a complicated affair, with the potential for a love triangle just like in the books.
“I will have my pen ready to report on any and all of his romantic activities,” the fictional Whistledown wrote.
Here’s Netflix’s renewal announcement in the form of a Lady Whistledown letter.
For the unversed, the period drama Bridgerton follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. Hoping to follow in her parent’s footsteps and find a match sparked by true love, Daphne’s prospects initially seem to be unrivaled. But as her older brother begins to rule out her potential suitors, the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown casts aspersions on Daphne. Enter the highly desirable and rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), committed bachelor and the catch of the season for the debutantes’ mamas. Despite proclaiming that they want nothing the other has to offer, their attraction is undeniable and sparks fly as they find themselves engaged in an increasing battle of wits while navigating society’s expectations for their future.
Production of the Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland produced show will start next Spring. The first season made the installment the fifth largest launch of a Netflix original series of all time, as reported by Variety .
