How The Flowerstown Foundation Commemorated World Earth Day.

Date:

International Earth Day was 22/04/2022, this year’s theme was, “INVEST IN OUR PLANET” Flowerstown Foundation, an NGO based at Rwentojo, in Western Uganda, kicked off celebrations by planting 1,000 trees at Rwentojo Church Of Uganda and at Rwentojo Primary School.

The event aimed at emphasizing that tree planting is one way we contribute in fighting climate change. The guest of honor Mr Rogers Mbabazi, RDC Mbarara District, flagged off the event by expressing his thanks to Flowerstown Foundation for contributing the 1,000 trees and bringing the community together for the tree planting. He further encouraged all Ugandans to work hand in hand with the government to preserve the environment and to educate each other on how to prevent harmful practices which are destroying the environment.

Joseph Tumwesigye, The District Environment Officer, Mbarara District, encouraged residents to consider planting trees when buying land for commercial or residential purposes.

The Rwentonjo Community members later joined Flowerstown Foundation in a community cleaning exercise to create awareness about the need for proper garbage disposal for a healthy environment.

The International World Earth Day is the world’s largest environmental movement. It is celebrated on April 22nd every year since 1970 after three million gallons of oil spilled off the coast of California the year before.

Flowerstown Foundation, founder, Ms Joyce Weisz, highlighted that investing in our planet, is one sure way to stop climate change. Flowerstown Foundation’s mission is to lead girls to a brighter future, but to do so, the environment needs to be nurtured, made safe and conducive for the growth and development of today’s girl child.
