Abbas Kaijuka Unveils ‘Corbata’: A Monochrome Tribute To The Tuxedo

Date:

Fashion designer Abbas Kaijuka, renowned for his creative and distinctive designs, has introduced his latest collection, “Corbata.” The name, meaning “tie” in Spanish, is a fitting title for this line, characterized by its black and white palette and deep inspiration from the traditional tuxedo.

Mr. Kaijuka explains, “The tuxedo has always been a significant influence in my work, right from the inception of my brand, Kai’s Divo Collection. With ‘Corbata,’ I wanted to revisit those roots and bring back the elements that initially inspired me. That’s why ties are a prominent feature throughout the collection.”

A defining aspect of the “Corbata” collection is its use of exquisite hand-painted patterns. Each piece is uniquely decorated with handmade designs, adding an artisanal touch that sets this collection apart. These patterns are not merely decorative but integral to the collection’s identity, harking back to Mr. Kaijuka’s earlier works.

His second collection, created in Nigeria, was celebrated for its intricate motifs on leather garments, a legacy that “Corbata” proudly continues. “The tie and the paint are central themes in this collection,” Mr. Kaijuka notes. “My second collection was filled with motif patterns, and I wanted to bring that essence back in a new form. The tie doesn’t always have to be traditional; it can be integrated into various shapes and styles, paired with these distinctive painted patterns.”

The color palette of “Corbata” is strictly black and white, underscoring the collection’s sophisticated and timeless nature. This monochromatic approach enhances the visual impact of the hand-painted patterns, making each piece a statement of elegance and artistry.

The absence of other colors allows the intricate designs and innovative use of ties to take center stage, highlighting Mr. Kaijuka’s meticulous attention to detail and creative vision. Currently, the “Corbata” collection from Kai’s Divo Collection comprises 45 pieces, with plans to expand to 100.

The collection includes both menswear and womenswear, featuring innovative uses of ties in diverse forms. Women’s dresses and other pieces prominently incorporate ties and hand-painted designs, showcasing Mr. Kaijuka’s creative vision and craftsmanship.

“The collection is supposed to have 100 pieces, but for now, I have 45 pieces,” Mr. Kaijuka mentions. “It’s the collection I am going to be showing this whole year and part of next year, the first quarter of it.”

The “Corbata” collection will be showcased throughout this year and into the first quarter of the next, offering a glimpse into Mr. Kaijuka’s unique interpretation of the classic tuxedo, enriched with the artistry of handmade patterns.

Through “Corbata,” Mr. Kaijuka invites fashion enthusiasts to experience a blend of classic elegance and modern creativity, celebrating the beauty of handcrafted artistry. The black and white theme serves as a powerful backdrop, allowing the intricate designs and innovative uses of ties to shine brilliantly.
