First of all, allow me scream and shout; IT’S FINALLY TIME FOR WIZKID! This is because, the Starboy himself just revealed the arrival of the long-awaited album ‘Made In Lagos’, that he says is to arrive…tonight.
Originally set for release on October 15, the LP was delayed in respect of the ongoing #EndSARS protests in the star’s native country, and Wiz has since been at the forefront of calls for change, as such it’s understandable why he’s keen to keep the focus on dissolving what he (and many others in the #ENDSARS movement) say is widespread corruption and violence in the sect; thereby opting to delay the project.
Much to the excitement of his fanbase – at home and globally – Wizkid said that he’d be sharing the project imminently, and to be exact today 11:11 pm, as per his post on Twitter which has since gone ablaze and causing the buzz to grow on the social networking site. As at the time of writing this piece, his tweet has gathered over 32,300 retweets, 75,800+ Likes, and been flooded with comments with many said they will be waiting for the official release:
About who is to feature on the project;
Well, when ‘Made In Lagos’ does arrive, it will boast an eclectic list of collaborators joining him on the LP. A-list musicians that include stars; Burna Boy, Tems, Ella Mai, Damian Marley, Tay Iwar, Skepta, Projexx, and RCA label-mate H.E.R, are set to appear on the body of work.
According to the track list shared online, the album is set to boast of 14 tracks:
Producers on-board include P2J, Kel P, Wizkid’s frequent collaborator and close friend Mutay from Legendury Beatz (who helmed Nigeria’s “national anthem” ‘Ojuelegba’), Sarz (‘Come Closer) and Northboi Oracle.
Wizkid also made adjustments and a complete flip when it came to choice of the cover artwork of the ‘Made In Lagos’ album. The former album art portrayed an appreciation about the landmarks and the beauty of Lagos. It celebrates Lagos’ phenomena like the three-wise men, Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge, Eyo, TBS, Lagos traffic and so forth. It connoted a sense of pride in the flawed beauty of Lagos.
However, on the new album art, Wizkid is displaying a sense of tire; as a representation of the flaws than the beauty that is undergoing; a Lagos that is grown weary of the struggles and the larger Nigeria after given the ongoing SARS protests and police brutality in Lagos/ Nigeria at the moment. Props for the creativity. 🦅🕊🇳🇬
Therefore, today at 11:11Pm, hit up your favorite online music streaming/ download service and check the album out. The album’s announcement has birthed a Tweemoji of whereby if anyone makes a tweet with any hashtag (#MLM, #Wizkid, #Starboy), an emoji of an eagle on a Nigerian flag is automatically added to that post. Speaking of trends, Made In Lagos is already trending at number 1 in Nigeria, and 5 in the U.S.
