“This one is straight from the heart – my story, my truth, my growth,” Davido wrote on Instagram alongside the album announcement. The superstar took the triumphant rollout to a whole other level by revealing that he would be dropping the first single off it, “Funds” with Odumodublvck and Chike.
In an exclusive statement to Rolling Stone last week, the “FEM” crooner revealed that:
“‘Funds’ is a celebration of the hustle and the journey.” On working with Odu and Chike, Davido commented that: “Working with Odumodublvck and Chike on this track was magic. They brought their own unique energy, and together we created something special.
Describing “Funds”, the 3-time Grammy nominee added that: “This song isn’t just about money – it’s about the mindset, the struggle, and the rewards that come with staying true to your grind. It’s a vibe that resonates across cultures. And with 5ive on the way, I’m bringing that same energy – African pride, global sound. We’re just getting started.”
Concluding his album announcement Davido appreciated the fans and told them that the best is yet to come, with his new body of work that is ‘5ive’.
“This one’s for the dreamers, the go getters and everyone chasing what’s theirs! Thank you for riding with me. Let’s make history again!!!” he concluded.
Davido first performed the then-unreleased track that we now know as “Funds” alongside Odumodublvck during his birthday concert at his Atlanta hometown’s State Farm Arena.
“Funds” samples South African singer/songwriter Brenda Fassie’s 1997 classic “Vuli Ndlela” that was inspired by the oppressive apartheid regime at the time.
‘5ive’ is set to drop 14th March, 2025. Just like “TIMELESS”, it too has a set list that carries 17 songs with so far two of them being out now; “Funds” and “Awuke” on which Davido features reggae upstart YG Marley (the son of Lauryn Hill and Rohan Marley; grandson of Bob Marley).
Upon arrival, ‘5ive’ will be joining Davido’s already well decorated catalogue that includes albums; ‘TIMELESS’, ‘A Better Time’, ‘A Good Time’, and ‘Omo Baba Olowo (The Genesis)’.
