Libianca has made a huge debut appearance on The Billboard Hot 100 Chart!
Cameroonian-American breakout singer Labianca Kenzonkinboum Fonji also known mononymously as Libianca has registered a milestone with her hit song ‘People”.
The 22-year-old gifted singer and songwriter Libianca has now made her first and all-important debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, thanks to her viral song ‘People’ which has entered the chart at position 91.
This comes a few weeks after a guest appearance and performance alongside Latin American singer Becky G at Coachella 2023.
‘People,’ upon release in 2022 took the world by storm and became an instant favorite to many given the record’s capturing the everyday struggles of an ordinary person battling depression and loneliness hence making it earn more than it takes to become one of the few Afrobeats cross-over singles from last year into 2023.
With it charting on the Billboard Hot 100 this week makes it only the second Afrobeats song on the chart alongside pacesetter Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ which has now reached a new peak (at No. 5) and setting a new African record.
The single equally grew on the hearts of many Nigerian netizens (internet users) when it received a remix featuring Omah Lay and Ayra Starr. It has also recorded international success which includes a remix with American popstar Becky G. Rapper T-Pain adding his own verses on the song as well.
The impressive feats alone the song has recorded that include holding the record for the highest chart African song on the UK Official Singles Chart (peaking at No. 2) are a testament to its quality which distinguished it and made it resonate with listeners.
Libianca’s Billboard Hot 100 entry sees her become only the third female lead African artist to appear on the chart after Ghana’s Amaarae (SAD GIRLS LUV MONEY) and Nigerian international sensation Tems (Essence).
