Mortal kombat is a 2021 martial arts, action and adventure Hollywood movie. Based on the famous fictional video game mortal kombat with its famous characters and death fatalities.it is R- rated like its video games with a running time of 1hr and 50min
It is a reboot of the 1995 mortal kombat which was directed by paul W.S Anderson. Unlike this movie where earths mighty heroes embark on a quest to an island to fight for the earths realm in a fight competition, the 2021 reboot is more so based on more so the revenge of scorpion
The 21st century mortal kombat begins in the 17th century where Bi Han who we get to-know is subzero attacks the village of the great hero hanshi Hanzo ,kills his wife and first son and the-entire clan. Hanzo goes to another realm , but while he dies his mark is transferred to his last son who is saved by raiden after Bi Han has left the village.
Director Simon mcquoid introduces us to Cole young, a cage fighter who has a mark of the dragon, who is unaware of his heritage.
In fear of competition at the 10th competition after successfully winning the last nine fight competitions ,emperor shang tsung sends his best warrior subzero to kill whoever possesses the dragon mark who may possibly take part in the competition to protect earths realm.
This is a point where director Simon mcquoid differs from the original movie , leaving the viwers in suspense of how the fighters are going to face each other. These are the things we learnt from mortal kombat.
Change in plot
Simon mcquoid changed the plot from what we would expect , where the mortal combat fighters would engage in a battle in which the winner would take all, to me this plot seemed boring and wouldn’t’t bring any new stuff to the reboot. However director , made emperor shang tsung to collect a group of fighters who would kill and prevent the fighters of earths realm from engaging in the mortal combat competition. The fighters of earths realm who were gathered and were training at the temple of raiden accepted to play it that way.
Inner power of the warriors
We later discover that even though you bore the mark of the dragon that allowed the fighters to participate in the completion, the fighters had to first train hard to unlock the immense power from within their soul called arcane. Cole young fails to discover his arcane while training at the temple, which angers raiden and sends him away back to his family. The ruthless kano discovers his arcane while angered when talking to liu kang and kung lao, a laser beam is seen coming from his eye. Cole young later discovers his arcane while fighting goro when protecting his family.
Flawless fatalities
The most interesting part as usual are the fatalities, I even heard people after leaving the cinema grasping about the bloody fatalities. Liu kang trademark mark kicks and the fire dragon were immense, kung Laos spinning hut as if it were a saw, scorpions trade mark spitting of fire and sub-zeros ice fights were captivating.
Mortal kombat sequel
With few characters included in this segment , one would surely expect a sequel like shao khan, Johnny cage, sketor, rain, reiko. Not only observing that some characters were missing , we see in the end scenes while Cole young planning to go to Hollywood , we see a poster of Johnny cage attached to the wall.
Diverse international cast.
The cast reflects the global nature of the brand with the talent spanning the worlds of television and martial arts. The ensemble includes lewis tan ( dead-pool, wu assassins ), ludi lin ( aquaman ) as liu kang, Jessica mcnamee (meg ) as Sonya blade, josh Lawson as kano ( bombshell ), chin han as shang tsung ( skyscraper ), joe taslim ( star trek beyond ) as bi han and subzero, Hiroyuki sanada ( skyscraper and last ship ).also featured are max huang as kung lao, sisi stringer as mileena.
