The most exciting to happen to the movie industry was seeing our childhood cartoons and heroes turned into feature films; however, the most exciting development must be the movies that raised us a generation getting follow-up parts; right from Kung Fu Hustle and now ‘Puss In Boots’.

According to an announcement made yesterday, the ‘bad guys’ at DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures have been cooking, and have therefore announced a sequel to one of our childhood favorite animation – ‘Puss In Boots’.
This comes off the heels of DreamWorks Animation’s artistic peak (Kung Fu Panda 2) which made gross earnings of up to $149 Million domestically and $555 Million globally on a $130 Million budget.
Upon debut in 2004, Puss in Boots became an instant scene-stealer thanks to the superb main character of the animation who was brought to life by Antonio Banderas. The character was given his own adventure 11 years ago, a 77 Episode ‘The Adventures of Puss in Boots’ Netflix special, and now a sequel, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which is set for release later this year.
According to Variety, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish will tackle much darker themes like death and mortality other than what many of us are likely expecting.
It’s been described by the creative team as a “fairy-tale spaghetti Western,” and picks up with the swashbuckling feline all these later. When he learns that he has used eight of his nine lives, Puss in Boots and his friends set out on a journey to find the mythical Last Wish and restore the lives he has lost while also escaping new enemies who are trying to hunt him down.
The sword-wielding cat makes a return this December 21 in theatres; with A-list actors and actresses like for Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, and Florence Pugh, among others. Its arrival comes around the same time as ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ which is expected to arrive on December 16.
