For the past two to three days, a couple of on-demand music streaming service were wondering whether the platform was down as some couldn’t be able to access the “Now Playing” part of their music library among other errors they were receiving/ experiencing with the app hence hashtag #SpotifyDown trending on Twitter.

Well, business is back to normal at the world-lead music & audio streaming platform; this time even better as the service has now added lyrics for all global users (each market).

Truth be told, we love our music, but love it even more if we can jam along and sing to it word for word; which is why the streaming platform felt the need to add the by far most demanded for feature;- LYRICS.

“Let’s say it plain and simple: It’s easier to jam out to your latest favorite song when you know the words. That’s why, beginning today, Spotify is empowering millions of fans around the world to sing louder and more confidently than ever with the launch of Lyrics.”, read the statement on Spotify’s blog.

Us users in other markets have previously had access to “Behind the Lyrics,” a feature launched in 2016 in partnership with Genius which offered lyrics interspersed with trivia about the song, its meaning, the artist and other commentary. Meanwhile, through Spotify’s community feedback forum, thousands of users over the years expressed to the company they would prefer a feature that provided real-time lyrics, instead of lyrics that are interrupted with facts and other background information.

Through a partnership with Musixmatch, Spotify has brought song lyrics to life through in-app access. The two had previously collaborated to offer offer lyrics to users in India, Latin America and Southeast Asia.

This new feature is available to all global users, both Free & Premium, across all platforms like iOS & Android devices, desktop, gaming consoles, and TV, so as to enable millions of fans connect with the music and artists they love on an even deeper level. The streamer also adds that the feature will also be available on big screen via its app for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung, Roku, LG, Sky and Comcast.

Apple Music in 2018 announced a partnership with Genius for lyrics across thousands of its top songs, and two years later became the exclusive web player for Genius. Among other services, Pandora says it works with LyricFind and Amazon works with both LyricFind and Musixmatch, states its website. Tidal on the other hand just like Spotify uses Musixmatch as its lyrics source.

With this expansion, Lyrics will now be available in all markets where Spotify is offered, eliminating one of the big competitive advantages these rivals had over Spotify.

Did I mention you can also share the lyrics to the song within the app? Simply tap the ‘Share” icon in the bottom left corner of your phone screen as the lyrics scroll down.
