The mega music streaming platform has  teamed up with The Weeknd to launch the first of its kind concert film. Out today Tuesday (Jan. 7), Billions Club Live With The Weeknd is a 45-minute film and it captures the star’s recent one-night-only Los Angeles concert, which honors his unparalleled achievement of having 25 songs surpassing a billion streams. Among these, being hits like “Blinding Lights,” “Save Your Tears,” “Starboy,” and “The Hills.”

The film, produced by OBB Pictures, will be available on Spotify via iOS, Android, desktop, or TV devices. It features performances of The Weeknd’s most iconic tracks alongside new material from his upcoming meal of an album Hurry Up Tomorrow. In addition to live performances, the project includes reflective voiceovers from the Toronto resident, where he shares insights into his transformative journey and gratitude for his global audience.

Hurry Up Tomorrow, set for release on 24th Jan via XO and Republic Records, will serve as the final chapter in the Canadian superstar’s recent trilogy, following 2020’s After Hours and 2022’s Dawn FM. Notably, today, January 7, marks exactly three years since the release of Dawn FM, a project that expanded The Weeknd’s sonic landscape with its introspective and experimental themes. The forthcoming album will include previously released singles such as “Dancing in the Flames,” “Timeless” featuring Playboi Carti, and “São Paulo” featuring Anitta.

While in interview with W Magazine in May 2023, The Weeknd revealed that Hurry Up Tomorrow might mark his final project under the moniker “The Weeknd” and since then go by his birth name Abel.

“The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd. This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say.” he stated, hinting at future artistic ventures under his real name, Abel Tesfaye.

Complementing the album, The Weeknd will release an accompanying psychological thriller film of the same name. Directed by Trey Edward Shults and starring Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan, the film promises to delve into themes that mirror the album’s narrative depth.

Unfortunately, in case you are in Uganda (like myself), when clicked, you are unable to watch the Billions Club Live With The Weeknd film, but hopefully Spotify will avail it for other territories soon. In the mean time, have a peep at its trailer below:
