Afro-Soul Beacon Johnny Drille Arrives In Uganda Ahead Of Blankets & Wine Headlining Role

With a solid catalog that includes hit record “How Are You (My Friend)”, “Bad Dancer”, “Halleluya”, “Mystery Girl”, “Romeo, and Juliet”, and more, Nigerian alternative and afro-soul sensation John Ighodaro, better known as Johnny Drille, is one of those acts that many Ugandans have yearned to see perform live for a very long time, a wish House of DJs (the organizers of the outdoor quarterly event “Blankets And Wine” that has since become a staple event in Uganda’s entertainment scene garnering huge crowds and delivering top-notch experiences) filled when they announced him as the headlining act for their forthcoming Edition.

He first gained notoriety after participating in the sixth season of the reality show Project Fame West Africa. He would later release his debut single “Wait For Me” in 2015. To his name is a full-length album “Before We Fall Asleep”, “HOME” the EP, and a string of singles and LIVE sessions.

The 32-year-old Mavin Records signee, singer-songwriter has today at 11:30Am touched down at the Entebbe International Airport, where he was well received.

Performing alongside him will be Vinka, Big Tril, Izabel UG, amapiano duo Mellow & Sleazy plus DJ Mixes by fan favorites DJ Bugy, DJ Vee, DJ Lito, Jean, to mention but a few. Returning as hosts is Miss Deedan and Shakib.

Edition 29 was headlined by Cassper Nyovest, Bensoul, Mike Kaihura, and were joined by Joshua Baraka, Azawi, among others.

Blankets And Wine will be happening this Sunday, the 27th of August at the Lugogo Cricket Oval and tickets are available on Stanbic Bank’s FlexiPay platform at only Ugx. 150,000. They are also available at Funz Video outlets, Shisa Nyama Village (Bugolobi), Zone 7 Restaurant and Bar (Mbuya), and Kenji’s Cocktail Bar (Kisementi). These will also be sold at the event entrance.
