Aka Dope First Fridays is a monthly event that happens every first Friday of the new month.

On the first Friday of September, Kampala experienced yet another exceptional installment of AKaDope First Fridays. Just a few days prior to this, the Akadope Band had served as the supporting act at the 30th Edition of Blankets And Wine, where they backed up the renowned Johnny Drille.

This event marked the second occurrence since its return after a four-year hiatus. The revival took place at Zone 7, a popular hangout located in Mbuya, on August 4th. The evening featured electrifying performances by artists such as J-Wats and the alternative urban hip-hop sensation Ebrahim Soul’O.

The latest edition delighted attendees with captivating performances, beginning with the soulful songstress Biya, who seamlessly blended gospel with her original tracks. Following her act, the enigmatic Tushi Polo graced the stage with rap verses that effortlessly fused Luganda and English.

During intermissions, the host band, Akadope, continued to entertain the audience before Uganda’s beloved artist Lilian Mbabazi took the spotlight. She got the crowd dancing to fan favorites like “Danger (Love Letter)” and tracks from her EP “The ONE.” She also showcased her “Diamond” potential by inviting members of the audience to join her on stage for a rendition of “Where You Are,” a classic from the 2000s that she co-created during her time in the girl group Blu^3 alongside Radio & Weasel.

As Lilian was about to bid farewell to the stage, her fans clamored for an encore, and she obliged by treating them to a memorable performance of “Memories,” a collaboration with A Pass, which truly capped off the highly anticipated night.

AKADope First Fridays was initiated by Kemiyondo Coutinho with the aim of providing a platform for local artists to showcase their diverse talents in music, painting, poetry, and acting. This event consistently features the outstanding AkaDope Band. Don’t miss the opportunity to attend the next AKADope First Fridays at Zone 7 in Mbuya on the first Friday of the coming month and in the future. AKADope First Fridays is here to stay and will continue to illuminate your first Fridays every month.
