15 Years Later, Kung Fu Hustle Set To Finally Get Part 2.

Date:

In case a famous meme of a middle-aged lady putting a mean face has graced your Twitter feed before, you could have related to it but wondered its origin. Well, that image is of Qiu Yuen; in a scene in one of the greatest films of all time by the title; Kung FU Hustle.

The Land Lady’s persona was identified with short-tempered, chain-smoking, violently dominates both her husband and the slum residents and boy oh boy, she’d shout at the top of her voice, and cause glasses to break too; perhaps which makes the meme much more relatable to-date and even the movie more memorable, despite having been released 15 years ago (December 23, 2004).

Running for a total watch time of 95 minutes, Kung Fu Hustle remains the highest-grossing film of all time in Hong Kong as it earned the team a whooping US$102 million between then and now.

Plans of a follow-up to the epic Stephen Chow martial arts flick is finally happening, according to an update by The New York Times’s Wesley Chu:

Chow originally revealed his hope to produce Kung Fu Hustle 2 back in 2005 but things didn’t pan out that way. He re-confirmed news of the project while in interview for his while promoting his 2019 movie The New King Of Comedy where he will helm the director’s chair and possibly even cameo in the film. It won’t be a sequel per se, but more of a “spiritual follow-up” set in the modern world, according to a report by MAAC Action Cinema.
