Allow me open this piece with a rhetoric question: Is there any artist that has had more wins than Eddy Kenzo here in Uganda? From having songs that feature in international blockbusters, winning accolades for music, headlining some of the biggest festivals in the world, and breaking record beyond borders, not to mention the charts he has topped continent wise.
The latest win to add to the collection is his feature in the top 15 most streamed artists in Sub- Saharan Africa as per Billboard’s rankings. Based on global views, Kenzo has gathered 109.73M views worldwide which sending him straight to the 13th spot on this list; just above Yemi Alade and Joe Boy, though he comes after celebrated gospel singer; Sinach.
On the list, “On the Low” singer and the African Giant Burna Boy takes the lead with 435.57 million streams, Tanzanian Diamond Platnumz comes second place with 291.98 million streams whiles Davido takes the third spot with 285.76 Million.
According to YouTube music trends manager Kevin Meenan, the listed artists are those who had broken through internationally and the list was generated having overseen a collection and analysis of the YouTube Music charts and Insights data. It is also very true that all the featured artists are African stars who have surpassed the 1 Million subscriber mark.
