NTV Uganda; a subdivision and member of the Nation Media Group company has officially hit the 1 Million Follower count on popular social networking site Twitter today.
Having started operations in Uganda in the year 2007, the station went on to become so popular because of the telenovelas it broadcast such as ‘Second Chance’, ‘Two Sides of Anna’, ‘La Tormenta’, ‘Hidden Passion’ and the likes. It overtime bred the finest Journalists in the region; the likes of Mr Maurice Mugisha, Rachel Mwine, Agnes Nandutu and Joel Kamadhi. Also airing discovery shows and documentaries such as ‘The Amazing Race’, and so many more amazing programming I can’t recall off head. That is how long NTV has indeed like its slogan states “Turned Around Our World”. The station was also a champion and one of the pioneers of airing locally created, cast and produced content; introducing hit drama series “The Hostel” and later on “NTV Deception’ and many others in between; such as “The Power of Legacy”. The station has also been commended for its good journalism and story coverage; serving a powerhouse to many of Ugandans’ favorite field reporters and journalists such as Solomon Kaweesa, Flavia Tumusiime, Faridah Nakazibwe, Josephine Karungi and Frank Walusimbi. Also, other programs such as ‘NTV The Beat’, NTV TNation, NTV Xpozed, Erics’ Game, and Rendezvous plus NTV Hot Steps further won the hearts of many. I for one, one of the programs that really got me hooked was the NTV MEN show; because the panelists were interesting to watch, had some really engaging topics they discussed and for me that was just it.
The Kenyan branch of the station under the umbrella name NTV Kenya was founded in 1997 and it wasn’t until 10 years later that the Serena based NTV Uganda was launched; in the February of 2007.
You could be wondering why I had to give this much about the history of the station, well the intention was to paint a picture of consistency, delivery, quality, and diligence the channel has established. I do believe that achieving this milestone does mean a lot of hard work has been put in; not only in the offline world but also online. Because, I mean; to most people, if NTV hasn’t said it, then it is not true or they can’t believe it. That’s how much people rely on its content. It is by no surprise they are one of Uganda’s leading television stations.
Having made 1 Million Followers, congratulatory messages were flowing in left and right with many hailing the station for ‘Turning their world’ with quality programming, new, music, and much more.
In Uganda, just like everywhere else, social media dominance in terms of numbers is a privilege left to Celebrities, politicians, Social Media influencers, companies and brands.
