Snapchat lovers can have a sigh of relief mixed with excitement thanks to the mobile applications’ latest update, which includes the highly coveted username change feature; after years of them pleading for it.

Effective yesterday February 23, users will be able to alter their username without any impact on their friends list, Snap code, Snap score or memories.

Usually, when signing up/ creating accounts on the platform just like any other, most users be in a rush and end up choosing usernames that are either too long, not memorable and some deem “embarrassing”.

As if that wasn’t enough, ever since Snapchat’s launch in 2011, usernames have been unchangeable for security reasons. The app has now confirmed users can change their username in its latest update however this can only be done once a year.

The user name change feat has been happily welcomed by users who have been stuck with ’embarrassing’ usernames for years.

A Snapchat spokesperson said: ‘As an app built around ephemerality, we know that people grow and change – we certainly have over the last ten years – and couldn’t be more excited to bring this top requested feature to Snapchatters.’

The update comes shortly after Snapchat joined forces with Ticketmaster to develop a new tool called ‘Ticketmatcher’ that will suggest events to users based on their interests.

The Ticketmatcher feature includes a first-of-its-kind Map Layer, as well as an in-app Mini – Snapchat’s platform for social experiences.

‘We’ve partnered on an innovative experience within the Snapchat app that not only matches Snapchatters with events they might like based on their indicated preferences, but allows Snapchatters to swipe left and right on upcoming shows, and even discover events nearby, right there where they are already finding their friends on Snap Map,’ Snapchat explained.

Below is how you can go about your Snapchat username change:

While users can now change their usernames, there are some important caveats.

While users can now change their usernames, there are some important caveats. Snapchatters will only be able to change their username once a year and will be unable to revert to any previously owned usernames – including their own say your previous user name was ‘kittycat’, and you now change to ‘kitty kitty’, while changing your user name, the app can not allow you go back to ‘kittycat’.

Bringing this back home, now imagine we could get another chance to re-take our photos on the National Identification Cards, wouldn’t that really slap. Bet most of us would line up real quick because most of those pictures we have for ID photos are ‘not kawa’ on all levels. 😂🙄
