Billie Eilish has shared her latest single “Therefore I Am” last nigh (Nov. 12), less than a week after surprising fans with the news that the song was on its way; and sharing its artwork on her on Instagram earlier this week.

The five-time Grammy winner first teased the track, which was co-written and produced by brother Finneas O’Connell, just days ago, captioning an Instagram post of the single’s artsy cover art, “I’M SO EXCITED FOR THIS ONE” she wrote on Monday (Nov. 9).

“Did you have fun?/ I really couldn’t care less/ And you can give ’em my best/ But just know/ I’m not your friend/ Or anything, damn,” she says bitingly while running around with abandon in the video the 18-year-old directed in her teen retail stomping grounds.

Since the release of her 2019 debut album ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’, Eilish has shared introspective quarantine anthem ‘My Future’, another new song called ‘Everything I Wanted’ and her and Finneas’ James Bond theme song ‘No Time To Die’ whose video she also unveiled the long-awaited music video for “No Time to Die,” her theme song for the upcoming — and continuously delayed — James Bond film of the same name. “Therefore I Am” marks Eilish’s first new release since.

She dropped both audio and the visuals simultaneously; and the dark, bouncing track’s accompanying music video came with a pandemic-appropriate video in which Eilish gets her steps in at an abandoned mall, running around to hit all her favorite stores and snack spots, swiping up soft pretzels and doughnuts while singing about how much you don’t know about her.

Rocking an oversized cardigan and shorts, Eilish strolls through the legendary Glendale Galleria mall while singing, “I don’t want press to put your name next to mine/ We’re on different lines so I/ Wanna be nice enough/ They don’t call my bluff/ ‘Cause I hate to find/ Articles, articles, articles/ I’d rather you remain unremarkable/ Got a lot of interviews, interviews, interviews.” The dark pop track with one of her signature throbbing beats and whispery vocals appears to be a reckon with the global stardom Eilish has achieved over the past two years.

“It’s not quite clear if this is the first piece of a second album but, if it is, it suggests a brighter set of songs could lie ahead. With an artist as unpredictable and inventive as Eilish, though, it seems like a fool’s errand to try and forecast what she’ll do next – who had money on jazzy ballad dedicated to herself?

“Regardless of what the future holds, this is a perfect piece of much-needed positive pop to put at the centre of your self-care routine ASAP.”

Eilish is set to perform the 2minute and 54second song live for the first time on Nov. 22 at the 2020 American Music Awards. It was released under the Darkroom Imprint/ for Interscope Records. She announced the track’s arrival on social:
