Drake to receive Honorary Artist of the Decade Award from Billboard

Date:

Drake has been named Billboard’s Artist of the Decade.

The Toronto-born rap star will receive the honor at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards later this month, the outlet announced on Tuesday (May 11).

After first appearing on Billboard charts in 2009, Drake banked nine Billboard 200 No. 1s in the 2010s, first leading with his debut 2010 studio LP, Thank Me Later, and most recently reigning with 2019’s Care Package. He also scored six Hot 100 No. 1s in that span,” the outlet notes, also adding that no one has scored more Top 10 hits or had more Hot 100 entries than Drizzy.

Drake beat out nine other influential artists for the coveted award, including Post Malone, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Adele, Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.

According to Billboard, the Artist of the Decade Award is determined by Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 chart data and also takes into account an artist’s social media data and touring revenue throughout the decade.

As reported by REVOLT, Drake is also a contender in seven other categories for the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, including Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Rap Artist and more.

Drake already holds the title for the most Billboard Music Awards of all time, with a tally of 27 trophies to his name. Back in March, the 6 God also became the first artist to have three songs debut at No. 1, 2 and 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 after releasing his chart-topping three-pack, Scary Hours 2. The project’s “What’s Next” debuted at No. 1, followed by “Wants and Needs” featuring Lil Baby and “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” with Rick Ross.

The 2021 Billboard Music Awards will air live next Sunday (May 23) on NBC starting at 5 p.m. PST / 8 p.m. EST.
