Bebe Cool as earlier listed is the only Ugandan artist joining several other African artists snapped up by MTV Base Africa to grace the upcoming virtual charity concert dubbed “Africa Day Benefit Concert At Home” on Africa Day (Monday 25th, May 25th, 2020).
The show is organized by ViacomCBS Networks Africa the parent company of MTV Base) and YouTube in partnership with Idris Elba and will be a 2-hour show that will be streamed and broadcasted on MTV channels and on the MTV Base Africa’s YouTube channel.
The benefit concert is aimed at raising funds to help children and families that are in dire need in this era of the COVID–19 Pandemic. All proceeds raised from the concert will be donated to support food and health needs for those most impacted on the continent.
Hosted by Idris Elba, the show will bring together a star-studded line up of some of the hottest names Africa has to offer.
Viewers can look forward to seeing superstars: Bebe Cool, Sean Paul, Burna Boy, Rema, Sho Madjozi, AKA, Diamond Platnumz, Sauti Sol, Nasty C, Yemi Alade, Fally Ipupa, Stonebwoy, Teni, Angelique Kidjo, and other continental A-list performers yet to be announced in the weeks to come, so as to make this a monumental experience.
The benefit concert will also be made available even after “Africa Day” to encourage people and organizations to donate. Further details on how to donate and the facilitation partners will be made available in the days to come.
Speaking on the concert, Idris Elba said, “Taking a moment to shine a light on African arts to benefit the African homeland and its people. A continent of this size should find a way to dig deep and stand up for one another at a time like this. It’s important for the future and history will not forget.”
The first of its kind virtual concert Africa Day Concert will see many African artists perform their much-loved hits from their homes. The concert will be taking place on the DSTV MTV Base channel 322 (at 10Pm) and you can also catch the show on their YouTube channel at 7Pm (in Ugandan time then). Do remember, all this action is happening this 25th of May, which is Monday of the coming week.
The benefit concert will also be made available after “Africa day” to encourage people and organizations to donate. Further details on how to donate and the facilitation partners will be made available in the days to come as per MTV’s communications.
Beats my understanding how Vanessa Mdee, Eddy Kenzo, RunTown, and Mr Eazi didn’t make the list on the line up; but again, more artists are being added onto the concert’s performance table as per MTV’s announcement; so, hopefully they will feature then.
