With a primary aim of highlighting the emergence of local designers and fashion houses that create wonderful fashion clothes of an international standard as well as enable the youth of both countries and promote the fashion industry which has great potential for employment and revenue for the respective countries, the inaugural Kampala – Kigali Fashion Week will be happening this Friday 24th February at the Wink 5 Hotel & Spa (former Pearl of Africa Hotel) in Nakasero.

According to the organizers, among the many experiences attendees should expect is witnessing showcases from various fashion designers; both established and up-and-coming ones including Signature, Abbas Kaijuka, and Guiza.

At the event presser, Ronah Ankunda the Wink 5 Hotel and Spa Public Relations and Marketing Manager remarked that the hotel now has new management from Tunisia and expressed their excitement to host the event.

“We are glad to host the Kampala – Kigali Fashion Week; and even more excited that we are hosting the first of many to come. As a hotel, we are up and running and ready to serve our guests a blend of Ugandan cuisines, ample parking space, and more.”

Adding to her voice, Aquafina Mineral Water’s Brand Manager Grace Namutebi remarked that: “Aquafina being the top most selling international water brand, they have partnered with global fashion events in the past & most recently had a presence at the Abryanz Fashion and Style Awards (ASFAs), Dubai Fashion Week, Vietnam Fashion Week; to mention but a few.

She went on to say that; “As a brand, they are passionate about fashion and therefore fashion events are close to their hearts; therefore, when the organizers of the event reached out, Aquafina was a good fit as the brand has been refreshing runways across the world for over a decade.

While addressing the media, John Bunyeshuli; the CEO of the Kampala – Kigali Fashion Week & Event Curator, while answering the question on what is in for the young people when it comes to this event, he mentioned that they have been working with a team from Italy and New York to open up a fashion academy in Rwanda, and that obviously, what opens up in Rwanda, definitely also gets a cross over version to Uganda.

He also previously revealed that the other core foundation for organizing the Kigali – Kampala Fashion Week is to celebrate the unity, peace and love between the two countries. With that in mind the Guest of Honor at the event will be the Higher Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda to Uganda and a representative from the government of Uganda.

The inaugural Kampala – Kigali Fashion Week is happening on the 24th of February at the Wink 5 Hotel under the theme: “Development, Integration, Diversity, Inclusion”; and among the other exciting experiences to look forward to at the event is a Blue Carpet as arranged by Club Pilsener, a Deejay plus live band alongside a musical performance by a surprise act. The amazing Miss Deedan Diana Muyira will be the host/ emcee of the night.
