Thousands Rally Behind Ugandan Chef Mama D As She Embarks On Setting A New Guinness World Record By Way Of A Cookathon

Date:

Over the weekend, Dorcus Kirabo Bashebah, popularly known as Mama D’s Kitchen, took up the challenge to cop the World’s longest cooking marathon. This was heralded back then in May when Hilda Baci, a Nigerian chef beat the previous record held by Indian Chef Lata Tondon, hence inspiring many Africans to take on the challenge.

Famed for her online kitchen, dishes, trays, platters etc, Mama D is currently stationed at Zoe’s Cakes ‘n’ Bites in Kira where she has since embarked on a 5-day cooking spree, expected to span 5 days. Racking up a total of 121 hours.

On why Mama D chose to take on the challenge upon herself, a close confidant shared with the editor of this site that as a chef, achieving this milestone will be an extraordinary feat in her career.

He also added that, the current holder of the record is Irish chef Alan Fisher, who cooked for an impressive 119 hours and 57 minutes, taking over from  Hilda Effiong Bassey, also known as Hilda Baci, who cooked for 93 hours and 11 minutes. In so doing, taking on the cookathon to bring back the feat home to Africa, most importantly, as a way of motivating the girl child that their dreams are valid and that they can achieve anything if they put their mind to it.

Zoe’s Cakes ‘n’ Bites where the cookathon action is taking place has since been flocked by thousands of friends, family, and well-wishers. Social media influencers, media, and members of the surrounding communities rally and express support for Mama D as she aims to achieve this record.

Mama D’s big day and mini event has also since been an opportunity for many to meet, network, play some outdoor games like playing cards, ludo, chit chat, and groove to some music as they delve into mouth-watering delights by Mama D as they cheer her on, offering morale and keeping her encouraged till the cookathon hits day 5.

As a fellow Ugandan and a food lover, I wish her all the best in this effort. At the time of publishing this piece, she has since surpassed 43 hours. The cookathon is airing LIVE on Urban TV.

Saving the best for last, Mama D could just have another surprise up her sleeve. The Cookathon by Mama D is being supported by Royco, YoKuku, Radiocity 97FM, Motion I, Glare Armani, and Tusker Cider.
