2023 Wrapped: A Look At How Ugandan Audiences Streamed Music On Spotify This Year

At the start of December, Spotify unveiled its yearly summary called Wrapped, showcasing what people listened to the most in 2023. While some familiar names returned, there were also new entries on the list.

Burna Boy secured his spot as the most streamed artist in Uganda for the second year in a row, proving he’s still “Sittin’ on Top of The World.” Drake came in second, closely followed by Ayra Starr from Mavin Records.

Joshua Baraka’s “NANA” was the most exported track on Spotify throughout 2023, having garnered over 3,674,000 streams on the original version and its remix version being listened to over 1,215,000, further portraying its popularity.

Afrobeats continued to shine, dominating the Top 10 most streamed songs and albums in Uganda, with Burna Boy’s “Love, Damini” taking the lead, followed by Davido’s widely acclaimed “TIMELESS” LP.

Dethroning Azawi as the most streamed artist in Uganda on Spotify and taking her spot is Geoffrey Oryema. Coming in second place was Lucien, then Eddy Kenzo , Joshua Baraka and representing as the only female in the quite male dominated Top 5 was Azawi.

If you’re having trouble finding your Wrapped, ensure you’ve met the eligibility criteria by streaming at least 30 tracks for more than 30 seconds and engaging with at least five artists between January 1 and early November.

To kickstart your Wrapped journey, be on the lookout for banners on the Home, Search, and Library tabs, as well as a dedicated “Your 2023 in Review” shelf on the Home page of the app. A quick search for “2023 Wrapped” within the app will also lead you there, so you can delve into your Wrapped stats to discover the music categories you followed, receive a playlist of your top 100 songs, and unveil your unique listening personality. For a hassle-free experience, open your Spotify mobile app. If the “Your 2023 Spotify Wrapped” banner isn’t immediately visible, check the top menu for a Wrapped button. Click, and let the musical nostalgia unfold.
