Joshua Baraka has recently found chart success with his new single ‘NANA’.

Arguably one of the biggest exports out of Uganda at the moment and on the Ugandan urban scene, Joshua Baraka has set numerous records right from his debut in the industry back then in 2021 and has since remained unmatched to date.

His January 2023 solo single ‘NANA’ has been able to break barriers and also get records, which is I have compiled a list of the five remarkable records the fast-rising star boy himself has set over the course of time with just this one track. Given that we are in a digital music streaming era, most if not all are inclined toward streaming success.

The exciting single by the Ugandan pop star was produced by Axon of Bram Bram Records.

  1. Most Buzzing Record On Shazam

Baraka has recently overtaken Cameroonian singer Libianca’s viral hit ‘People’ to claim the top spot as the most searched track on song discovery platform Shazam. Guess NANA already knows, this tune is not about the Go Down for sure. 😉

  • The Longest Charting Ugandan Song On Apple Music Top 100 (Uganda)

NANA’s impact was officially felt when it became the first and longest charting song atop the Apple Music Top 100 Chart of Uganda. this comes at a time where the chart has predominantly been Nigerian act dominated for the longest time, and the only Uganda records that came close were Eddy Kenzo’s ‘Weekend’ and ‘Tupaate” by Pia Pounds.

  • Highest Charting Ugandan Song On Audiomack Charts
The “Angel of Mine singer’s new track hit the number one position in the week of 26th of February 2023 on the Audiomack Top 100 Songs Chart; becoming the highest-charting single from Uganda on that particular charts; a feat that was only achieved by Zulitums back then in 2020.

4.     1st Non-Mainstream Record To Rock Ugandan YouTube

When I mention mainstream in this sense, I do allude to a song having to be in the native/ most commonly spoken language (Luganda) in this case. For instance, songs like “Oliwa” by the bubbly Carol Nantongo, Zakaayo as sung by King Saha, and Kataleya & Kandle’s ‘Onsanze Ndaba’ perfectly fit into this category.

The PRZN Directed visual’s audio is a predominantly all-English delivered single, and it somehow swept the entire Uganda off its feet; and currently stands at position #2 on YouTube; attracting a whopping 71,000 views (at the time of writing this); that is; in less than a fortnight since release. Now that’s MAJOR!

5.     Most Decorated Digital Artist

On Spotify alone, Joshua Baraka is well placed on priority Editorial playlists; thanks to his earworm that is ‘NANA’; I am talking “ Fresh Finds”, ‘Sizzlers’, “New Music FRIDAY (Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Nigeria”, “Made in Uganda’, among others. On the other hand, NANA is equally being celebrated on Apple Music with merited placements on “Afro-Soul Mix”, “Africa Rising”, ‘Mali Safi”, Alte Cruise”, “Afro Fusion”, and “EA Wave”.

Congratulations on all the success JB! In case you haven’t had a glimpse at the impressive music video of NANA, check it out below:
