BNXN’s Lyrical Prowess And Finesse Come To Life On Debut Album “Sincerely, Benson”

Date:

Nigerian singer-songwriter Bnxn, formerly known as Buju, on Thursday unveiled his much-anticipated debut album, “Sincerely, Benson.” The release of this album has generated immense excitement within the music industry, establishing it as one of the most eagerly awaited Nigerian projects of 2023.

It serves as a follow-up to Extended Plays “Sorry, I’m Late” and “Bad Since 97”.

“Sincerely, Benson” comprises fifteen meticulously crafted tracks, each offering a unique auditory experience. Notably, what sets this album apart is its impressive lineup of guest artists, including Popcaan, Headie One, Kizz Daniel, Seyi Vibez, Taves, and the iconic 2Baba. These collaborations elevate the album to new heights, showcasing Bnxn’s ability to bring out the best in his fellow artists.

The features aside, “Sincerely, Benson” couldn’t have made for a dope album if not for the sound engineers enlisted on it, among these being Sarz, Tempo, and Leriq.

Personal standouts on the project are “PRAY” on which the singerasks God for guidance and assistance on this journey and career path he is on , and ‘GWAGWALADA’ for they were released prior the LP. After a first listen, the other to join this list is ‘English & Pidgin’ on which he samples Magic!’s ‘No Regret’. On it, BNXN addresses his shortcomings and engages in introspection over a lost love. The vulnerable writing and melodies evoke the required sentiments for listeners to connect with the song and this is what makes it one of the standout tracks on the album.

According to Apple Music, BNXN says ‘English & Pidgin’ was inspired by a one-night-stand he had while in Stockholm, and that the track was a form of an apology, one that he couldn’t give in person to his then partner.

Bnxn’s lyrical prowess and songwriting finesse are on full display throughout “Sincerely, Benson,” reaffirming his status as one of Nigeria’s top songwriters. The album captivates listeners with its lyrical depth, emotional resonance, and infectious melodies. It serves as a testament to Bnxn’s exceptional talents and solidifies his position as a significant force in the Nigerian music industry.

Just like its title, “Sincerely, Benson,” Bnxn embraces vulnerability and introspection, exploring themes of personal relationships, success, soul searching, spirituality, and self-awareness. While some critics argue that his signature style can feel predictable when he goes solo, his ability to collaborate and bring fresh perspectives to his music shines brightly. Bnxn’s album offers a compelling journey through his emotions and experiences, making it a standout addition to the Nigerian music landscape.

I like the thing he did with the project’s name, how it feels more like the album was an address or letter to his fans with how he signs off (“Sincerely, Benson”), just like Burna Boy did on “Love, Damini”.
