Davido Makes Impressive Billboard Hot 100 Debut Alongside Lojay & Chris Brown With ‘Sensational’

Date:

“This is screaming OVER DEMM ALL!!!”, Is all I can say, as Davido has yet again continued elevating and adding to the racks of his ladder to stardom, thanks to his latest Hot 100 milestone.

This follows the Osun State (Nigeria)-born Afrobeats royalty having again what is his best musical year yet. From selling out arenas and venues to recently bagging 3 Grammy nominations at the upcoming ceremony for Best Global Music Performance (for “FEEL”), Best African Music Performance (for “UNAVAILABLE Feat. Musa Keys”), and Best Global Music Album (for “TIMELESS”), topping charts on streaming platforms, and now a Billboard Hot 100 hit to his name.

“Sensational,” on which Davido is featured by long-term collaborator Chris Brown, together with Lojay, has made a steady debut at No. 96 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated February 3rd, making it his first ever appearance for him and Lojay as well.

The track was outed on October 20th  last year via Chis Brown Entertainment/RCA Records, and according to Luminate, it has since garnered 15.7 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 14%) and 2.6 million official U.S. streams (up 3%) in the Jan. 19–25 tracking week. The song is the second single from Brown’s 11th studio album, “11:11” that was released in November 2023.

“Sensational” isn’t the first time Davido and Brown have collaborated. The pair additionally teamed up for “Blow My Mind” and “Lower Body,” both in 2019, “Shopping Spree,” also with Young Thug, in 2021, which appeared on Davido’s 3rd studio album “A BETTER TIME”, and “Nobody Has to Know” in 2022. Davido has also recorded with Nicki Minaj, Lil Baby, Pop Smoke, Popcaan, Meek Mill, Quavo, Rae Sremmurd, and Summer Walker, among others, making himself a name as one of the most prominent Afrobeats musicians of the past decade.

He’s since released four studio LPs in his career: Omo Baba Olowo in 2012, A Good Time (2019), A Better Time (2020), and Timeless (March 2023).

Ever since the launch of the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart in 2022, the “FALL” crooner has since posted 25 songs on there, the fourth most among all artists. Burna Boy closely follows in with 44 entries, Asake with 34 and Wizkid with 27 entries. Of those 25 hits, three hit the top 10: “STAND STRONG,” featuring Sunday Service Choir (No. 9 in 2022); “UNAVAILABLE,” featuring Musa Keys (No. 3, 2023); and “OVER DEM” (No. 10, 2023). On Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart, Davido has charted 27 songs – 18 of which reached the top 10 – all since 2016. That’s the second most among Afrobeats artists, after Wizkid with 29 of them.

Speaking of Lojay, who also happens to be housed on the hit track, he tallied his first Billboard chart appearance in 2022 with another Chris Brown collab which was a remix of “Monalisa” with Sarz. The song reached No. 8 on and No. 38 on Rhythmic Airplay. He’s also charted two other Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs hits: “Arizona” and “Moto” which reached Nos. 44 and 48, respectively, in 2023. Plus, as featured on French Montana and Swae Lee’s “Wish U Well,” also with Jess Glynne, he rose to No. 37 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay in October. Lojay has released three EPs: Midnight Vibes in 2017, LV N ATTN with Sarz in 2021, and “Gangster Romantic” in March 2023.

At the time of writing this, Davido has been announced and is set to make a stop in Kampala, Uganda, as part of his TIMELESS tour this March 29 to perform at the Kololo Independence Grounds. Tickets to “TIMELESS KAMPALA” are on sale already. Be sure to secure yours now.
