After the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) announced their nominations last month, there was concern over the criteria of nomination that was followed by the committee as argued by the citizens of the internet since some ground breaking hitmakers had apparently been left out/ snubbed.

Well, the good news is another set of nominees has been unveiled this evening and is to see one lucky Ugandan artist compete against 19 other African musicians for the coveted Listeners’ Choice award at the MTV Africa Music Awards Kampala 2021 that will be hosted virtually in partnership with Uganda, the Pearl of Africa on 20 February 2021.

The Listeners’ Choice award is a very popular, fan-focused category that gives music lovers across Africa an opportunity to vote for one nominee to represent their country at the MAMAs.

Winners from each country will be added to the official Listeners’ Choice nominee category, which will include 20 finalists who will be voted for by the continent on the MAMA website.

Ugandans are supposed to vote for an artiste who will eventually become a nominee at continental level; from a list of five top artists including B2C, Winnie Nwagi, Pallaso, Slick Stuart and Roja and John Blaq.

Each of the nominated acts has shown a history of consistent delivery of music content in the past year. Here’s a break down; – Winnie had a consistent string of releases last year; arguably one of the most hardworking ladies in the game at the moment. Moving on to B2C, they had the biggest song in the country last year, Pallaso has the hottest at the moment, and John Blaq has been doing equally well since debut, and deejaying duo Slick Stuart & Roja’s 2019 studio album ‘Very Wellooo’ is still the talk on the street and the digital streaming charts, with their joint effort with Jose Chameleone ‘Kigwa Leero’ being the lead driver. You and I would agree that this nomination is well deserved.  and voting for the shortlisted candidates closes on 9 January. The artist with the most votes automatically qualifies to be in the Listeners Choice Category with other contenders representing their countries, and stands the chance of being crowned ultimate winner across Africa.

Voting for Listeners’ Choice award is currently ongoing http://www.mtvmama.com. Music Fans in Uganda should simply tweet & tag one of the participating radio stations (@882SanyuFM & @CapitalFMUganda) and @MTVMamas including the unique hashtag (# ‘Artist Name’4MAMA) and cast a vote. Eg; #Pallaso4mama @882SanyuFM @MTVMamas.

Of those vying for the category back home, some of them have already started their campaigns to rally for votes. Get voting too.

The awards, which are in their seventh edition, will be held virtually on February 20 in Kampala, Uganda, and will broadcast on the MTV Base and MTV channels. The winner will be revealed during this Broadcast.
