By now, when someone mentions the name Azawi; it should quite ring a bell in your mind, right? I mean who hasn’t heard the famous love anthem “Quinamino”? her debut single which she released on the 6th of January upon being signed by premium Ugandan record label; Swangz Avenue. I do remember as I concluded my former article about her saying that with her talent, uniqueness, art and humility, she’d win the hearts of many and would surely become a powerhouse in the music industry.

You and I would all agree that Priscilla Zawedde alias AZAWI has been trending and the talk of the town when it comes to music. I mean, she’s had one of 2020’s most played songs even for the first quarter of the year. Topping charts on most charts on digital music streaming and downloading platforms, Radio and TV chart shows, and a favorite to many.

Asides being a singer and performer, Azawi also has a creative music writer side too as she’s been able to pen songs for artistes like Eddy Kenzo (Bibawo, and Inabana), Lydia Jazmine, Nina Roz, Vinka and Pia Pounds (Kiberakyo).

Swangz Avenue’s new signing and glamour belle on the block AZAWI has been on a swift climb on her stairs to stardom ever since then.  To start with; on the 25th of February, 2020, she released a five-track EP (Extended Play) titled “Lo Fit” worldwide. The entire project was written by Azawi (Priscilla Zawedde) and Emmanuel Sempijja, was produced, mixed and mastered by Kuseim. The “Lo Fit” EP delivers a listen of up to 16 minutes 29 seconds and has singles in the following order:

  1. Quinamino
  2. Lo Fit
  3. Crazy Lover
  4. Repeat It
  5. Mbinyumirwa

Keeping in mind that the lead single was already doing so well, this helped grow and spread her brand and persona as an artist the more. She made a statement as she was among the acts to headline at the 12th Edition of Roast & Rhyme festival at the Jahazie Pier (Munyonyo) where she wowed audiences with her performance.

But this is not what we here for; earlier yesterday she finally did premiere the visuals for “Repeat It”; track number 4 on the EP. Well, for a while she’s been posting teaser videos and shots of the video shoot for the past couple of days and the drop finally came through yesterday 10AM.

Video: “Repeat It” was produced by Viboyo and directed by Swangz’s Marvin Musoke. The video’s shot in a home setting. Kicks off with Azawi seated on a light blue beetle Volkswagen, clad in a red floral puff sleeve blouse and short blue jeans. We later see her doing laundry with her “mum” in the music video till her lover leaps into their home compound. She then stealthily follows suite; hence dragging the clothes on the hanger lines to hide her from her otherwise strict mum. He hands Azawi a red rose, lifts up a radio and a manila sheet having a message assuring her he’s going dance for her and that he’s no done yet with blowing her mind. As he makes signs that her mum will find him and they’ll be in trouble. The video of “Repeat It” is basically a portrayal of a perfect love story that thrives amidst being in hiding but someone the two star crossed lovebirds still live and love. I for one, enjoyed watching the video, loved the whole concept, the creativity to tell such a compelling story and expression in the shortest time possible, how light hearted it was and very interesting to watch, excellent choice of attire and the setting of the video in general. Great job on this one. Kudos to the entire team at Swangz.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give a 10 for sure. Was absolutely top notch.

Audio: “Repeat It” is basically a song where Azawi expresses herself to her lover begging and reminding him to replay and rewind to the beautiful memories they shared as they were still at the courting stage of their relationship. The words, the dedication and commitment he had towards wooing her; that he should rewind time and take her back to those good old days; for they were incredible times.  Listening to this song will remind you of how such a talent Azawi is; with amazing vocals and lyrical artistry that’s so eccentric and amazing. In case you are the type that loves to sing along, here are the song’s lyrics, feel free to do so:
